Message: This article by Andrew Martin, which Martin admits himself is propaganda in favor of the opening, inspired me to buy Martin's DVD on the opening. I know it's probably not sound, but it really is a fun opening. And it was used successfully by no lesser of a player than Lasker.

Message: Probably equalize on move 3, since bl has been permitted to play a move he should not have been able to get in without penalty...
I love the Albin on both sides. It just feels like one of those openings one could spend a lifetime playing and studying and never lose interest :)

Message: Morozevich IS my Hero~! I think probably the highest rated player I have seen be as
adventurously innovative & into new ideas that can be really far out ...but they generally work
out, tho maybe walking a fine line. Perhaps its just that on one else understands or expects
them~? For eg getting hit with an Albin Counter-gambit. But really looking back, even Max
Euwe, despite his win against it, can't say it didnt give him a thinking game. Thanks bogg, I'll
have to look at some of those Moro's!

Message: then Black has a number of options: if 3. Nc3 then ...exd4, 4. Qxd4 Nc6, 5. Qxd5 Be6! leaves Black in good stead. Another option for Black is ...Nc6, clamping down on the central squares.

Chess news:
On being a female chess player -- On day 2 of the U.S. Chess School in St. Louis, Elizabeth Vicary began the discussion, addressing issues of being a female chess player in this strongly male-dominated activity. She described the "weirdness" of being one of only a few women, or perhaps the only woman, at a chess tournament. "People treat you strangely because you're the only female," she said. "This can have an effect on how a person develops as a chess player. There's a feeling of being watched, and wondering if people are thinking, 'she must not be very strong.'" Vicary asked if the girls felt as if people were paying special attention to them at chess tournaments. Some ...
Chess: Hikaru Nakamura's lesson -- In 2003 at the age of 15 Hikaru Nakamura became the youngest chess grandmaster in US history, beating Bobby Fischer’s record by three months. Since then, the chess world has expected of him Fischer like success. This year at the age of 21 Nakamura has lived up to those expectations, winning tournament after tournament. One of those tournaments was the US Chess Championship, which he won for the second time. This week’s position is from Nakamura’s 2007 game against Rustam Kasimdzhanov. Kasimdzhanov is white; Nakamura, black. Nakamura reinforces a pin that generates a winning endgame. With this hint mind please try to find black’s best ...
Highly Skilled Competitors in Real-Life Mating Games -- Twenty years ago, there was only a handful of really good women chess players. Though still vastly outnumbered by men, they are not as rare as they used to be. And as a result, quite a few strong chess players have married, most recently Sergey Karjakin and Kateryna Dolzhikova of Ukraine. In most of these marriages, the husband is the higher-ranked chess player. Karjakin, for example, is No. 20 in the world, and Dolzhikova comes in at No. 6,430. An exception is the couple Pia Cramling of Sweden (No. 587) and Juan Manuel Bellon of Spain (No. 1,353). Monika Socko of Poland is one of the few women to have earned the grandmaster title, but ...
