missed win against cyrano? board #422733

Anyone care to help me analyze...cyrano sacrificed some pawns and he succeeded in a kingside assault, was his sacrifice sound?

I think I should have won with proper defense, but I let him get too much force near my king...anyone up to analyze this slugfest?

I was really hoping to cash those pawns in for the first ever win against cyrano, oh well, I will challenge him again when I feel I get better.

After playing thru your game, first thing strike me is: 18.Bxb6? I suggest 18. Qxb6. Other possible improvements for white could be: 20. Qa5, 24. h3, 25. Ba7 and maybe 26. Bg3, after 26. Bxb8, I believe the game is won by black.
Don't take my analyses to serious, it is just a quick "run thru". However you put up a fine game against cyrano and maybe you were on the winning path, challenges him again for another try!

Good luck :-))

Best wishes

Thanks, Cairo After I wrote this post Cyrano gave me his own analysis, he pointed out the suggestion at move 18... but he admitted the game could have gone either way until the blunder 26.Bxb8?

He also said he admits that the pawn sacrifice is risky but he believes the compensation to black is worth it...and we will eventually play this line of the dutch defense again!

Hopefully, next time no blunders! ;)

Maybe edmaster or brunetti can try to beat him. I am sure that edmaster can crush something:-)

After 18. Bxb6?! Black certainly has enough compensation-however, IMO Black is hard pressed after 18. Qxb6. The sacrifice might possibly be sound but practically White should stand better--after Bxb6 white doesn't really have as many practical chances.
